NCAA
College Game Day Tickets
As the Jurocks enter into their
5th season in the Rho Tau League they are forced with an even
greater challenge than before. Not only has the past season ended
with a disappointing 5th place, but when the players and coaches
reported to their locker rooms, they saw that 8 new teams have
been added to the league.
The league has also been divided into two divisions,
with the Jurocks being placed in the "South Division"
Included in this bracket are old foes Jagermeisters, Mud Dogs,
& Goo Crew. Although divisional ranking will not effect playoff
appearances, it is sure to heat up these rivalries.
WEEK 4:
It's a very, very sad week for the Jurocks.
Everyone played so absolutely horrible that the team
scored under 40 points. A horrible first in the proud
history of the organization. Coach Vegter is definitely
in the hot seat as the rest of the season starts to
play out. Many are speculating that if the coach is
not at .500 mid-season, there might be a replacement.
We'll check back on that in three weeks. The team would
have to win two of the next three games in order for
Vegter to maintain his job.
Player of the Week: L. Fletcher (D)
WEEK 3:
Finally the Jurocks are starting to move. With a league
topping 130 points, they beat their arch-rivals Jagermeisters
in a high-scoring intense game. Lead by a three touchdown
day by Daunte, the Jurock offense came alive and finally
complemented the already good defense. Coach Vegter mentioned
after the game, "This is what we are here for ladies
& gentlemen. We showed today that we are not a team
to push around. The Jurocks are for real in 2005, and
our opponents should realize this as we match up every
week. But we can't pop the champaign yet. We still have
11 games to go, and we need to make that 8th spot in order
to make the playoffs. There are still several teams in
this league that could easily best this team. We need
to play smart, and play well. This week we didn't obtain
a single weekly accolade, but our consistency won the
day, and our consistency will win the 2005 crown."
Player of the Week: D. Culpepper (QB)
WEEK 2:
After getting soundly thumped in week 1, the Jurocks went
on to play the Culture Club, who was also in a 0-1 situation.
This week, the stuggling offense still couldn't hold the
team back as the defense came out with a vengence. Week
2 showed glimpses of a team that could really go far in
this league as they went on to win by only 8.6 Points.
After the game the coach said in his teleconference, "I
don't know what's going on with the offense, we obviously
won't put up with this much longer. Daunte is going to
have to step up and lead this team. He is the peg that
the rest of them follow, without him, we won't go far
in the PTL this year."
Player of the Week: S. Jackson (RB)
WEEK 1:
After the draf the Jurocks went head-on into the first
week with one of the best teams that Coach Vegter Had
ever complied. Helmed by Fantasy Football Veteran Daunte
Culpepper (a Record 3rd year with the Jurocks), the
team was really set to go. But then the game came....
The Jurock defense played their heart out, easily putting
up points like they did in the prior year, but the offense
really struggled. Not a single Offensive Touchdown was
scored in week 1 as they Jurocks start the season 0-1.
Player of the Week: T. Spikes (D)
A Chat with the "Old Ball Coach"
July 21st 2005
Moderator: Good morning Coach, good
to see you.
Coach Vegter: Good morning to you Bob, it's a pleasure
to be here.
Moderator: Let's start our conversation out with a tough
question that's been on the minds of Jurocks fans in
the past three years. The last time the team won the
championship was in 2001, over 4 years ago. In 2002
& 2003, the Jurocks placed second, and in 2004 they
fell to 5th. What is happening to the team?
Coach Vegter: Well Jim, you need to look at the level
of competition in the PTL. I don't want to be-little
any of our old opponents, but in 2001the league had
a totally different face. There was no "divisions"
and, even though we weren't a perfect team either, other
coaches didn't put in as much time as they are in recent
years.
Moderator: Yes coach, but why the fall? I understand
if teams are getting better, but why can't the Jurocks
keep up?
Coach Vegter: Tom, you're not understanding what I am
saying. In 2001 we had an easy road to the superbowl.
You have to remember that even in 2002 and 03 we made
it to the big dance, but couldn't seem to jump the hurdle.
Going to the Superbowl three years in a row is a huge
success. Even though we didn't win the last two time,
we're still very pleased at the performance of the team
in those years. 2004 was a hard year, a very hard year.
The league expanded to 12 teams and we had a low placement
in the draft. But we on the Jurock Staff don't believe
in excuses, only responses. We took what we had last
year and made a big push to the end. Unfortunately it
just wasn't enough.
Moderator: Other than the Draft, what do you think caused
the Jurocks to fall in 2004?
Coach Vegter: Well Jeff, the biggest problem we faced
last year was the lack of consistency in the WR and
Defensive players. We had huge impact players at QB
and RB, but you can't count on one player to do well
every single week. We lacked the consistency we had
the previous three years and in 2005 we hope to remedy
that.
Moderator: Speaking of 2005, what are your plans for
the team this year?
Coach Vegter: Doug, like I've mentioned before, the
solution to losing is to have a well-balanced team.
Those teams with one or two stars will likely do well,
but not over an extended period of time. We're hoping
to draft consistent players that will earn consistent
points. We need a QB that will earn between 15-20 points.
We need a RB that will earn around 10 points a game,
we need WR's that earn 5 to 10 points a game, we need
TE's to earn around 5 a game and so on and so on. You
see Doug, this year's draft is going to be the toughest
draft the league has ever seen. With 20 teams it means
that there will only be 12 NFL teams left to pick starters
from. That's not much considering many of the bottom
teams don't have players you really want. So you really
have to come up with a good draft strategy in order
to win in 2005
Moderator: Coach Vegter, would you mind telling us what
that strategy might be?
Coach Vegter: Well, yes, yes I would mind. We wouldn't
want to give other teams an edge would we?
Moderator: Indeed. Good Point. Well coach, that's all
the time we have this week. We'd like to thank you for
talking to us and all the best of luck to the Jurocks
in the upcoming 2005 PTL season.
Coach Vegter: Thanks, and we hope to talk to you again
after the Superbowl
