Commentary

More tid-bits about the end of Week 8 & Coming into Week 9!

1. This week, the North averaged 88.2 points compared to the South's 98.3. If you want to see a very competitive division take a look at the South. 8 of the 13 active teams scored about 100 points. In the North the number of teams scoring about 100 was 4.

2. The South posted a total score of 10,203.8, 640.3 points higher than the North's 9,563.50.

3. The record between the two leagues in the Ghost Games is
North 18          -            South 18

4. Congrats to the Revolution for getting their first win of the season! The streak stopped at 7, putting them tied at the #1 spot for Losing Streak from the Start of the Season.

5. A few of you guys mentioned that you'd like me to keep track of my record of picking the Ugly Games & Upsets of the week. I thought I'd keep a little journal here for you. And NO... don't consider my pick for you to win to be a curse!

Ugly Game of the Week
Upset Pick of the Week

9-5

6. 7out of the possible 17 games the underdog beat the favored team.

7.
And they keep going. Tieing the 2003 Jurocks for best Winning Streak since the Start of the season. This is no joke, quite possibly the hardest record to break is this one right here. With all the week to week action it's hard to get any kind of quality consistent game play. The Bruisers have yet another challenge ahead of them as they face #2 Mosul Haji Killers. Still the overwhelming favorite, the Bruisers are on a roll indeed.

8. CLICK HERE to see the first edition of the 2006 Vegter Poll.

9. Time to start thinking about the end of the year. Where would you guys like to set the celebration dinner in Jan.? We did it in Greensboro last year and there was a moderate turnout. What would be easiest?

11. If you are looking to help here is what I need
A. Someone to look through the games each week and pull out the individual weekly award winners
B. Someone to take a look at the upcoming week's games and, if there is something interesting to note, do a write up
C. Someone to check to see if any Hall of Fame Records are broken each week
D. General articles about the PTL, interesting tidbits, fun stories.

THE TOP 4
1.
The Bruisers have a league best 125.37 point game average. That is only 13 points behind the last Hall of Fame record for best scores. The Bruisers have one hell of a team this year.
2(+7)
Maybe the crew should've stayed at #2. Sure they took a beating by the Bruisers in week 7, but had a huge record-breaking bounce-back in week 8. With only 1 week under 100 they have to be the #2 team in the PTL.
3(+5)
You hear those dogs? I think everyone else does too. Everyone had counted them out a few weeks ago, but several impressive wins (4 in a row!) have got them once again jumping by the leaps and bounds in the South Division.
4. (-2)
Biased? Maybe... But the Jurocks have the league's third best scoring average behind the Bruisers & Pappy's Crew. In 8 games they have scored over 100 points 5 times. Pretty good in a very competitive South Division
The Second Tier

5.
The Lightning are at 8 and 3. This record gives makes them the league's second best team. But with only one score over 100, they are a team balancing on one defeat from falling in our poll.
6.(-3)
What has happend to the Mtnears? Once a mighty team in the South, they have suffered 3 losses in a row. And their schedule doesn't get any easier. 3 of their last 6 opponents have score averages over 100 points.
7(+6)
Mark jumped 10 spots last week and 6 spots this week. IF he's able to de-throne the Bruisers in week 9, he'll be bale to jump even further. With only two opponents coming up to trip him up he might finally have a team!
8.(-4)
The Rangers are starting to stumble. They are scoring well, but their opponents are scoring even better. Although they have an easier remaining schedule, their Ghost Games don't get any lighter.
9(+3)
Will the Real Booty Bay Bashers please Stand up? With good replacement players the bashers have gone from being one-dimensional, to being a contender.
10.
Who they play is what is hurting the Meisters. They have the second toughest schedule in the PTL. Lucky for them they have a bye week to regroup and try to find some good second-tier players. Chad is the master of the waiver, so you better believe he's working on finding something.
The Muddled Middle

11.(+6)
#1 Team in the South? How'd they do it? They did it with a monster defense from Chicago. I'd like to think that they could continue to do well, but eventually someone's gonna figure them out.
12.(-6)
The Crew keep sliding. If Andrew had any sense about him he'd help his team out. But he's Andrew... Ooooooooh.
13(-6)
Even after a loss the Chup's were able to stay in the top 8 of the North. With a fairly easy schedule they could stick around for the postseason.
14(+4)
GEOAORPENING! Leon's come alive in the North with 4 gutsy wins. He has his inferno on fire (pun intended) and back on track to be a real threat for the playoffs.
15. (+1)
Two wins in a row have the Lampshades back in the Playoff Hunt. A score of 131 in week 8 has really boosted the status of this team!
16.(-1)
This is what I get for making fun of a team. They score in the three digits twice in the year, and then have a breakout game against my team. If Malibu can continue this, they should have no problem fighting for a spot in the playoffs.
17.(+3)
If the Maxers could get consistent they could be a really good team. They have the 2nd easiest schedule in the North, and have been able to score over 100 four times. Their other scores of 49.1, 66.7, 77, and 92 are really dragging them down.
18.(-7)
So Hanso beat the Jurocks, then had a bye. Would the team come back rested and ready to play in Week 8? Not really. They end up getting creamed by the Culture Club.
19.(+1)
The Crusaders started out the year strong, scoring over 100 points from week 1 to week 5. Since then they haven't been able to break triple digits and have fallen to the edge of being out of the playoff race. They will need to get their scoring back in order to continue their road to the finals.
20.(-6)
A 500 Overall record is a hard thing to swallow. Inconsistency in this league will kill a team, and right now it's killing the Dukes.
21
You might start to notice a trend. Those at the top are pretty much safe, those at the bottom, have very little room to wiggle. The Sabers are one of these teams that really want to win, but can't seem to find the right combination.
22.
Promises, Promises. To move up the list I want to see some wins! Losing twice in a row doesn't help.
The Bottom 4

23.(-1)
The Leviathans are trying. They're doing everything possible to jump out of the basement. It could still happen, but it will take an almost miracle.
24.(-1)
If the Rage would get their team in gear they could be a really good team. Right now there's just too many guys on bye weeks left as starters. This is where the North's quality players are hidden.
25
Still nothing out of these folks... dead team.
26.
YEAH! They finally got a win... For Naught of course, but hey... they got a win.
